North Waterloo Area Camping Facilities
The North Waterloo Camp Committee has a policy that firewood should not be brought to camp due to the possibility of transfer of local infections to the Everton Forest that might infect our Camp and the adjoining Conservation Authority woodlands and the County Agreement Forest. Firewood must not be brought to Camp Everton under any circumstances from the region of Greater Toronto or from Tri-Shores region. Firewood from those regions may be infested with Emerald Ash borers or Asian longhorn beetles.
Firewood is available at Camp Everton for $20 per load.
Camp Everton is filled with breath-taking scenery, cedar and mixed bush, small limestone caves and majestic cliffs. There are large open fields, dense bush, and a swamp. The beautiful Eramosa River flows through the 185 acres comprising the Camp. The camp has two formal campfire circles and an open air chapel.
The camp has numerous camping sites, a large barn with full facilities and 6 cabins of varying capacities and facilities. Follow this link for details about each cabin.
The camp has 11 adirondacks and more are being built - often paired with an existing adirondack. Follow this link for details about each adirondack.
The camp may be used year round for Scouting events. Scouters are welcome to drop by any weekend. Our Campmaster or Camp Ranger will be glad to assist you. Here is an aerial view and a Google satellite view of Camp Everton.
Camp Everton is about 35 minutes from K-W, just off Wellington Road 124 (formerly highway 24), north-east of Guelph.
The forest in the "back 40" of Camp Everton is home to a small stand of White Pop trees that for a number of years have provided the summer Cub Camp with White Pop for their meals. The early spring and then freezing temperatures in 2012 was stressful for the trees and the camp director worried the trees might have suffered like the local apple orchards, however her worries turned out to be needles as the trees proved to be heartier than the apple trees.
The White Pop trees are "tapped" similarly, but not exactly, like maple trees for maple syrup. White Pop looks very much like milk, however it turns out to be even healthier for you than milk. Every summer you can hear the Cubs say "Pass the White Pop please", a sure sign Summer Cub Camp is back for another year!
The winter of 2013-2014 set records for snow and cold temperatures in Ontario! Once again lots of TLC from camp volunteers proved to be sufficient to nurse the White Pop trees through the stressful winter. 2014 Summer Cub Camp is here now, and the big cooler in the Barn is once again stocked with White Pop for the Cubs! Mug Up and White Pop - it doesn't get any better! Pleasant dreams!
The cool wet spring of 2015 proved to be very popular with the White Pop trees as they grew significantly over the spring with new growth on virtually all of the trees. This ensured a constant supply of White Pop for the Cubs along with White Pop "moustaches" for the campers! Bottoms up!
Another mild winter, 2015-16, proved polular for the mighty White Pop trees. Not only did the existing trees flourish, but many new saplings have been sprouting up - a positive sign for the future. The hot summer days during the 2016 Cub Camps have been made more enjoyable due to the refreshing properties of White Pop, yet another reason to enjoy the drink. Just seeing the Cubs' eyes light up when the White Pop comes out makes tending the trees worth while. You can even here the "White Pop" song (to the tune of "Black Socks") echo through the camp.
